The Beginners Guide To Chrome Music Lab

These two past weeks in Te Ngahere we have started Chrome Music lab. Chrome Music lab is a site where you can make music, rhythm, beats etc... When we first started we did a rhythm lesson. With rhythm we had two little monsters with different sounds to create a pattern that makes different rhythm. The blue ones were my first rhythm tune I made with Chrome Music Lab. This week we are starting to make a song. My favourite rhythm level would be the blue ones because I loved the tune that they make.  My friend Gail made Bad guy, Old town Road, Dance monkey one and two. Gail is really good at making them they sound so much like the actual song. I haven’t made a song yet but I have had a go but it didn’t turn out so good.

Have you ever done Chrome Music lab before?

Constructing Castels

This week in Te Ngahere for maths we have been constructing castles using colored cardboard and using specific measurements. Group one started constructing castles and some finished constructing their castles. We had to measure straight lines or else our castles wouldn't be able to stand up and would be on a lean and that probably  wouldn’t be the best castle. When we finished our castle we took it to one of our younger classes for them to play with our castle.   When Thea( someone in my group) and I started our castles I thought it was going to be easy but actually it was kind of difficult because when I was  measuring straight lines and using the compass my hand was shaking so it was wobbly.

Have you ever constructed a castle before?

The Extremely Interesting Flight of Our Bottle Rocket

For the past few weeks in Te Ngahere we have been launching and modifying our rockets that we made for the Wonder Project. Our group had bad luck with the first two flights because our wigs fell off because. Our next three launches were Ok. Our farthest flight yet was 26.6 meters because we had aerodynamic fins. Also we had  the right PSI which was 60 and our The  water levels were 350ml. Our first launch we actually almost hurt someone because Autumn!!!!(someone in my group) picked up the lever to launch the rocket too early and Dales(Wonder Project helper) face was right next to the rocket. I really enjoyed designing the rocket because I got to draw a small sign to put on the from of our rocket.

Have you ever participated in the Wonder Project?

The Most Creative I Am Hope Fundraiser Treasure Hunt

The Most Creative I Am Hope Fundraiser Treasure Hunt

A couple of weeks ago Paihia School had a treasure hunt to help fundraise for I am Hope. I am Hope helps kiwi children with mental illnesses. We were told to bring two dollars or more if you would like to do the treasure hunt. I brang five dollars and my brother brang five dollars too. What we had to look for were these gumboots that were laminated. The rules were if you find one you have to take it to the principal straight away and  if you found one on the way you were not allowed to get it. When we started the treasure hunt I was really excited, as soon as the principal said GO the younger kids went first. When the gumboots started disappearing everyone started looking in the same place. I really enjoyed doing the treasure hunt even though I didn’t get a prize.

Has your school done a treasure hunt?

Things You Need To Know About Equivalent Fractions

For the past few weeks in Te Ngahere my group for maths has been learning all about equivalent fractions. We had to identify equivalent fractions. To find an equivalent fraction you have to divide or multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number. An example of an equivalent fraction is if you had  ½ it would be the same as 2/4 because if you multiply the numerator and denominator by two it equals 2/4 .  When we started these fractions I found it really easy compared to other maths because I got this a lot faster than usual.

Have you learnt about equivalent fractions?

The Do’s And Don’ts Of Taking Care Of Your Chromebook

The last two weeks in Te Ngahere we have been re-learning the dos and the don’ts of looking after your Chromebook. After we finished we had to create a DLO on how to look after your Chromebook properly, we could use anything to show our audience on how to look after your Chromebook. I chose to do a google drawing and showed lots of different do’s and don’ts of taking care of your chromebook( Eg: Don’t leave your Chromebook on the edge of a table because someone could walk past and knock it off but if you but it further away from the edge no one would break your Chromebook.  ) Also If you did an animation you had to go over it with a a screencastify because if it was just an animation it would be boring to  look at. When I was doing my google drawing I had to keep going back and re-reading the original kawa of care . I really enjoyed making my google drawing of taking care of your Chromebook because it taught me a lot about taking care of our chromebooks properly..

Do you learn on a Chromebook?

The Enjoyable Game of Universal Ball

This week in Te Ngahere for P.E we played universal ball. Universal ball is a game which we have a frisbee for frisbee, a basketball for basketball and netball, rugby ball for turbo touch and a soccer ball for soccer. First we were split into different teams first our teacher split the boys and then the girls. At the start of a game our teacher called out one, two or three and mostly and the end she says the whole team but this time she said all the boys and then she did all the girls. When we play Universal ball my favourite game would be soccer and netball. I really enjoyed when we play soccer because the ball usually goes everywhere and it is really funny. At the end of this game when the girls went we played netball and it was a mess. Hopefully when we do that again the girls aren’t a mess.

Have you ever played universal ball?

Mosaic Art

For the past few weeks in Te Ngahere we have been trying out Mosaic art on our Chromebooks and a couple of us did it on a piece of paper. A mosaic is using lots of small shapes to make a picture without connecting with each other.  First we had to choose a colour for the background. Then a picture of either an animal or an idol I chose a red panda. For me the hardest thing was the tail because it has a colour pattern with two different shades of orange which are darker from each other by the tiniest thing. After you do your background and your picture you use polyline tool and then you can zoom in. Then start your mosaic and make sure that they’re not touching.

Have you ever done a digital Mosaic art?

Movie Making

This week in Te Ngahere we have started our planning for our movie. First we had to get into a group. In my group is Autumn, Gail, Imogen and I . We are working on our script which to me is the one of the hardest thing because you have to make sure the conversations are flowing and also make sure the acting is on point. The hardest thing would be the filming because you have to find the different types of shots and also where you’re gonna shoot every scene from. Gail is the filmer and the director and the rest of us are actors. The fun part is probably the acting, because if you don’t do good enough you won’t pull it off and it would look really bad.

Have you ever made a mini movie?

Wonder Project

This week in Te Ngahere we have started the Wonder Project. The
Wonder Project is a free program to get New Zealand kids excited
about science, Technology and engineering. For this term there will
be two people coming every Wednesday. Their names are Gustavo
and Troy. Troy works with the Far North District Council as a
stormwater engineer and Gustavo works as a Pomologists and he
studies the biology of fruit and their development. Right now
Gustavo is working with Kiwi fruit in kerikeri. Each week we will be learning a little bit more about rockets. This week we had to choose
2 jobs from a list after we had to find out a little bit about them, the
two I chose was Environmental scientist and a biologist. By the end
of the eight weeks we would of built a rocket in our groups.
Has your Class done the Wonder Project?

Learning Te Reo

This week in Te Ngahere we are learning Te Reo from a book called
“Nga Mahi Parekareka Kei te Marae” which  means “Fun at the
Marae”. This week we began with the basics like how to pronounce
words and the other basic things. We will be reading the book to
younger kids in our school in Te Reo and then they will read it to us in
english. When we started the teacher said it was like learning to read
and it was. I was asking my buddie.  Am I saying it right. When we had
done it for two days the teacher told us to do a game of memory, I
won the last round.
Do you know how to speak Te Reo?

Amazing Touch Rugby

On Monday half of Te Ngahere went out to the field to play some
touch rugby there were these two people one called Henry and the
other called Jason he's a student at BOIC ( Bay of islands college). The
first thing Henry asked us to do was if anyone would like to take the
exercisers and someone in our class said yes. We did them for about
15 minutes then we moved onto some drills. We got into groups of
3-4 people in a group. Then we did some passing after passing we
moved onto how to play the ball. The group I was in got into a rhythm
until we finally got to play a game of touch. The game was fun even
though the score was 0-0. After the first half of the class the second
half went and played. What I found fun was dong the drills but the
hard bit was when we had to go back when the other team was
playing the ball.
Have you ever played touch?

First Step Of Our Circuit

 First Step Of Our Circuit
This week in Te Ngahere we have been trying a different trickshot called
a circuit using our success criteria. Our success criteria was that our
circuit must include a way to make a ping pong ball or marble travel a
drawbridge, classroom materials and a way to make your whole team
involved. We first started our drawbridge because our drawbridge was
most likely going to take the most time. To start off our drawbridge we
used popsicle sticks and a hot glue gun. We watched an example video
then using that video we designed and created the bridge  using her
instructions. The hard part of doing the bridge was finding the
placement of the sticks because sometimes we would put the hot glue on
the stick and then place them in the wrong place and the glue would
already be
dry.

Have you ever tried making a circuit Trick shot? `

How many gingerbread

How many gingerbread men

WALT: We are leaning to identify maths in everyday live.

This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning to look at things
with our maths eyes this is what we found. All of these
gingerbread men have walked through some mud,
all of the gingerbread men are smiling, all of the m&ms are
different colors, some of the m&ms are crooked,12 gingerbread
men, 24 m&ms on the gingerbread men, the gingerbread men
have really bad bowl haircuts, their smiles are all different, only
one of the gingerbread men has got two of the same color m&ms
on his front.  What I found hard is that I took a while to see the maths
side of it but then I found it to be what I found easier after a few minutes.
Do you have think you have maths eyes?

Little critters

  Little critters
On the 6th of May I made little critters out of clay. They are adorable. When I had finished making them I put them in the oven to see if they would harden. When I had put them in the oven I went away for 1 minute then I went back to the oven and they had melted apart from one which is the one sleeping. I was upset because they were my originals. After they had hardened I made them up again but not completely the same like the spikes on their backs are different. They still look the same. I was happy after I had made them up again. Then I went and gave two away, one went to my brother which is the one with headphones on and the one sleeping to my mum. I just need to make one for my dad. Have you ever made clay things?

Mystery fish

On Thursday 30th January my brother mum and
me went for a walk along a beach in Russell we
were almost half way down the beach and we saw
this weird fish. And we didn't have any idea what
it was and we still don’t. I said it might be a unicorn
fish but it wasn't. Then we kept walking then when
we were walking back we said to my brother to stay
there so me and my mum walked back to the car and
drove to my brother to take a photo of the fish.
The walk was nice and mysteries when we found
this fish. Do you know what type of fish this is. If
you do leave a comment down below.

Place value game

On Friday the 31st of January we played a game
called place value game where you have a ten
sided dice and you have ten rolls for your hole group,
you would share the dice with your whole group your
allowed to have 2 - 6 people including yourself.
I really enjoyed playing it .It was not my first time that
I had played it before so I knew a little bit about it but
I still lost which I found really funny. Apart of the game
was to test your thinking about maths and making
the right move.

Turbo touch

On Monday 16th we played a game
called turbo touch. My class is playing
a turbo touch tournament. The teams
are Crazy Horses, team Tokers, the Champions,
Chig and the Seagulls. In my opinion I think that
the Seagulls is the team to beat. One of our teachers
said we can beat the Seagulls if we don’t muck
around. When the Crazy Horses versed the
Seagulls the Seagulls won. I only played two rounds
. Hopefully next time we play I would love to verse my
friends team which is the Champions.
